Is it possible to answer calls without opening the phone?
In the car I use a headset and can place calls with the
phone closed, but I can't figure out if there's a way to
answer them without flipping it open.

Not sure if this is the only solution but I have a headset with a button
for answer/disconnect on it and it works fine with my 4500.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is my current headset doesn't have a button for answering and hanging up calls. I may have to get one if that's my only solution.

Don't know if that model has it, but I have one of those wireless jabra's
and a phone with voice control. When a call comes in this pleasant feminine
voice asks answer say yes/no? and when it detects loss of carrier, hangup
yes/no? Aside from the obvious advantages, it's about the only time I get to
order a "female" around

Just one of the really important features of clamshell phones that they all
forgot to include. When I was in love with my V60 series phone...and I still
am a little this phone could be answered via a button on the outside of the
phone without opening it. Calls can also be terminated by that same button.
No special headset needed. A VERY good option for people that drive and talk
or are on the go and just wanna answer their damn phone.
I would imagine %99 of all phones made do not do this anymore and can't
understand why. Since it's a passive implementation it really couldn't hurt
to include it with all clamshell models. So, for the people that will
respond like a bitch this option can still be there and wouldn't prohibit or
affect you in anyway or how the phone operates.
Yes, a feature I miss very much.
And of course for all the smart people that will say, "you can buy the
headset that has the button on it". I don't like to be forced to use a
headset that's not comfortable on me. If it doesn't feel right or I just
don't like it, I really don't want to be forced to use it. Hence the option
on the old V60 was really great since any 2.5mm headset can be used.

One thing that I believe you can do, is to put your phone in Driving Mode.
That will announce the caller to you. I believe it will ask you if you want
to accept the call. You can of course say yes or no. You can definitely
carry on a "hands-free" conversation w/ the clamshell open on your console
or whatever. The speaker phone works fine for you to speak into and to
hear your caller. I'm not positive if it works in the closed position
from there w/ that setting.
I've never felt compelled to get a headset since the speaker phone works so
well. But, another thing you can do, is go into call settings, and have
your phone automatically answer after 1 or 3 rings. I'm pretty sure if you
go that route, that your phone can be in the "closed position" and that you
can then carry on the conversation w/ the clamshell closed . Now in terms
of ending the conversation when the phone is in the closed position, I'm not
sure what you do. It's been a while since I've used the phone in this
fashion since I'm not on the road that much. I'll try to experiment w/ it
to see if I'm correct about the above points. Hope this helps.

Remember, if you do put it into auto-answer mode and your girlfriend calls
while you are driving your wife to dinner this could be a problem. Hopefully
some one here will understand what I'm saying.

If that's your situation, you've already got a problem. Doesn't take much
to understand this... Good luck. ;-)

Can you tell me what headset you have that has a working button for answering/hanging up calls on the VX4500? I bought one that was supposed to be compatible, but it doesn't work :^(

Don't really need one... RTFM and Check out driving mode in the manual...
Forces it into voice mode (answer, dial phone, lookup phonebook entries,
etc) when closed and a headset is connected.
specifically, with a headset, it will say "Incoming call Accept YES/NO?"...
Only minor problem seems to be hanging up... In voice mode, you have to wait
for the other person to hang up. (no voice command for hangup, probably a
good thing so you can't accidentaly say the words that would hang up during
a call)
