Mounting Temp Sensors

Have just got a Blue Orb for my Geforce 256. Have mounted and installed it, but I need to check the temperature with a temp sensor. What's the best way to mount the sensor for a reasonably accurate reading???

From what i know, you put the sensor right near the actual processor. If you cant do that you put the sensor on the heatsink. hope this helps

Is it worth routing a groove in the underside of the heatsink, so that I can mount the sensor flat, or is that going to take too much cooling capacity away???
