cpu load in windows xp pro

hi all..... again got a fresh problem if anyone can help me please,
Im running xp pro with sp2,Athlon 1400xp and 700mg ram
When playing games they are very gllitchy task manager tells me that my
cpu load is 100% and my firewall tells me that a p2p programe i turned
off is still running. But acording to task manager it's process has
ended.
The p2p programe is (bearshare) please forgive me if i was not meant to
say any brand name.
Also is there a way of turning off all unwanted processes?
