Overclocking Thunderbird 800mhz

I am brand new to overclocking and quite confused. I have an AMD Thunderbird 800 mhz and an ASUS A7V with the four DSW switches and the six DSFID switches. Maximum voltage is 1.85. To overclock my CPU do I just need to close the level 1 bridges on my CPU and then set the DSFID switches to a higher frequency?

Thanks for the help

In order to unlock the multiplier on AMD CPUS you must close the L1 bridges only. With the A7V you can then change the multiplier with the switches. I would recommend trying to increase the bus speed a bit first. A higher bus speed for instance 105MHz will increase the speed of your PCI bus, AGP bus, and memory transfer resulting in beter overall performance. The multiplier will only make the CPU clock run faster while the bus remains the same. On the A7V you can set the memory bus to asynchronous 133MHz bus without changing the bus from 100MHz. This might be a good option for you to try assuming you have PC133 RAM.
