My school got their hands on a legal alpha version from MS months ago.
I was able to get my hands dirty with it for only a little while, though.

Most of the "new" things I noticed are old news to Linux and Mac OSX users. As mentioned in the article, there is a new "control panel", but it worked and looked very similar to that of the Mac OSX. "Longhorn" also sports "virtual desktops" - something Linux/Unix has had for years. There are other "new" "enhancements", but like I said, it's boring old news for some of us....

Disregard my previous post.

Oh yeah...

Those obsessed with the way their desktop looks with all the "eye-candy" might be pleased with the look of the next windows. Its in direct competition with Mac's Aqua theme (though I like Mac's better, for now).

Disregard my previous post.

I still think bluecurve looks pretty sharp.

Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.

Whoa so let me get this straight, a new file system is coming out?
WinFS? What difference is there from NTFS, as if that one wasn't strong and fast enough?!

Also I see Palladium or at least some of its features are getting integrated.

One thing is, that Longhorn is an outright lie!
What the heck happened to the 3d Windows Longhorn we heard a few months ago and why did they call it Longhorn when it clearly is not 3d now?!

I don't know what the differences are between those two file systems. I haven't read any data-sheets on them, I just "messed-around" with the OS to see what were the "new" features.

But knowing MS, I wouldn't be surprised if WinFS is some ripoff or varient of the Journaling FS.

Disregard my previous post.

It must've gone through various upgrades since, I assume.

Well it already has a blue theme so users wont notice the BSOD anymore.

'Honey, did you change the background?'
'No, why?'
'Well it is only giving weird crap right now'
'I did not do anything, honest!'
'Wait it is restarting now... could it be an hardware error?'

Again, what a friggin' lie it was to claim it'd be 3d.
