A .exe file says I need to update Windows Installer, and starts the
update automatically. Then I get an error message that says: "Setup
was unable to upgrade the Windows Installer".

I go to Microsoft site and download Windows Installer v3.1, run file.
I get a message that says: "The system must be restarted before
installing the MSI30-KB884016, to allow some prior file update
operations to complete. (These operations were previously scheduled by
some other install or uninstall operation.)"

I've tried the msiexec /unregister and msiexec /regserver, no luck
there. Oh ya, and I've tried restarting the computer more than once.

Naturally , I want to install this program... Please help.

Thank you in advance

I tried most of the methods listed on the page... Still no luck, but
thanks for trying.

Anyone have any suggestions?

It would be in my best interests not to use system restore. Besides, I
don't know when the installer started having this problem. But thanks
for the suggestion.
