Hello, I just recently built a PC and I noticed that I still lag on bf3 on ultra. It's really annoying considering I built a PC to avoid that. When I turn MSAA off, everything seems good. Why does MSAA kill my PC?

Ultra Settings: 30>lower in intense battle 64 player
Ultra settings: MSAA off: 50-60 " "

i7-2600k ~ 3.4GHz
PNY GTX 560ti 1gb
8gb g.skill ddr3 1600
ASrock extreme3 gen3
60gb SSD (Boot) SATAIII
750gb HDD SATAIII 64mb cache

Resolution: 1680x1050

anti-aliasing is the most demanding graphical setting. It essentially redraws the scene with varying degrees of transparency depending on what type of anti-aliasing you use, and offsets it from the first set of lines drawn, to effectively smooth the "stepping" appearance of pixels. MSAA requires a combination of adequate processing power from the gpu's core clock, and adequate VRAM for the resolution (in bf3's case, 4x multisampling @ 1920x1080 will consume occasionally as high as 1.45gb VRAM).

Along with what casualcolors says a gtx 560 is a good card but your not going to get a great frame rate with it on ultra. You better off on high and trading some eye candy for some frames. The only way your going to get high frames on ultra with everything turned up is if you pick up another 560 and do SLI.

Thanks for the replies. From what I am hearing basically my GTX really can't handle the MSAA? Kelpar GPU come out next month right? To avoid problems like this should I go for like a GTX x70 / x80?

Your best bet would probably just to grab another 560 if you have the motherboard/power supply to do so. sli'ing to 560's together is pretty much a clocked up 580. If not wait to see what the pricing of the newer cards go for and the benchmarks. Not to mention the 560/570/580 will probably drop in price once they roll out.
