My printer occassionally just disappears. Caribright had
me UNCHECK the power management tabs in the Root Hubs
(they WERE CHECKED BEFORE, AND REMAIN UNCHECKED NOW), but
this morning the printer is gone again. When I try to
add a printer I get "operation could not be completed."
Any help?

the spooler service is not running. This is usually caused by print drivers
corrupting memory that the spooler service utilizes.
open a cmd window then
net start spooler

I am suddenly having the same problem!! when I try to
activate the new printer wizard, I get the "operation
could not be completed" message too!! This appears to be
the result of some tweaking of the services... I re-set
them back to original settings, but still no way to reset
my printers! Hope someone out there can help!
Thanks!

Surely you read the reply above yours by Alan? Did you try that first?

From the command prompt, type
sfc /scannow
(note the space between the c and the /). At the end of the System File
Checker (the sfc in the command) reboot. Now try the Install Printer Wizard
again.
