I have set up a home network and print from my laptop
which runs WinXP to my desktop which runs Win98. I can
print from Notepad and Wordpad. I can even print test
pages but I can't print from Word or Internet Explorer.
Any ideas?

In Word, you should be able to use File, Print... and select the printer to
which you wish to print.
