when attempting to print, XP notifies me that no printer
is installed. I click "add printer" an "X" box appears
with "operation could not be completed". I installed the
most current critical updates yesterday. There must be a
connection, but I don't understand why "add printer" would
be affected. HELP!!!!

A few more details please.

Is there a printer listed under Control Panel Printers and Faxes? If so,
what printer is it?

Are there any "restore points" listed under accessories System Tools
System Restore? If so, try restoring the system to a date before the latest
updates. Let us know if the printer is listed and works properly.

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
