I've owned hundreds of Gateways and never had a single proprietary part in them. Even the short ones used standard LPX motherboards (meaning you upgrade the board but keep the riser card). I have seen their all-in-one units and their book sized units, but have never owned one as they are not popular with government agencies from whom I purchase. In fact I believe those styled to be a very small part of the market, and I cannot see a praticle solution for providing standard motherboards in those circumstances, so they only use proprietary stuff when standard stuff is not available. You have to remember that Gateway is a corperate version of your friendly neighborhood dealer (meaning that they offer so many different configurations that it is cheaper for them to use standard parts).

Yeh, I sell a lot of them. Of coarse it is possible to get one of their all-in-one units, or a book-sized unit, but those are not nearly as popular as the ATX units are. In fact, the other types are so unpopular I have never seen one for sale on the used market.

What are you people talking about... this is what you get when you try and be CHEAP. I have seen all of them and they ALL SUCK. The only way to go is to learn how to build your own and DO It yourself.......
