$35/month for a year. That's a good price. Who is your provider? You switched from dial-up?
You have seen the light! Come for festivities newly enlightened one! (u gonna think it's soo fvcking fast at first u won't know what to do with yourself hehe).

SBC (Pacbell) Yahoo DSL.
It's a sweet deal really. That's for the first year only though. We'll see what I want to do after that.

Ow that hurt falling off my chair.
3 years ago it took 3 months to get my CrapBell account up. I'm sure things are a 1000% better so I'll bet 2 weeks.
Dichromatic for your viewing plesure...
Cable here is ridiculous. $50 a month plus you have to pay a shitload to install it. Plus cable isn't as good as dsl in a large city.

Congrats! You will get much enjoyment from it.
shame the uploads is only 128kbit... bit it aint bad, specially for that price.
I assume no download/upload caps either?
I look forward to sending you lots of good stuff
P.S. What adsl modemare you getting? and is it a ethernet or usb one?

*laughs at cable "neighborhood" connection sharing*
I have DSL for over a year now. YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK TO DIAL UP.
yep. I love my adsl. Its only a moderate 512/128... but its ALLWAYS 512/128 with never a slowdown.
Gaming pings to dedicated australian servers are fantastic too... sub 50ms in many cases.
<b><i>Poloticians and Nappies should be changed often... For much the same reason.</b></i>
I pay $50/month for 768/128. It sometimes goes at ridiculous dl speeds when they take my speed cap off. Hmm, I think at that price tho they should give like 1.5mbit.

$29 a month for 3 Mbit Cable.
1st month free, free installation

I get 768/128 for $33.50... (I love the high euro course).
My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on
I pay $40CDN (Approx $26US) for 3mbps down/400kbps up cable. Rogers advertises it as 1.5mbps down now though because in some areas a lot of people use cable and there is finite bandwidth provided to every neighbourhood.

Can't get DSL. Paying $50 a month for cable.

I'm also using Rogers, but am only paying $20 CND a month because of the promotion (last for 4 months), its pretty sweet!!

I have Verizon Online DSL. The first 3 months were $19.95, free cable modem, free Logitech WebCam Express, no contract. I did the self installation because waiting for Verizon would take forever.
I'm now paying $49.95/month for adsl 768/128.
Never had a problem with the service going down or loss in speed and I've used Verizon for 17 months now. The price could be a little better. They offered me $39.95/month if I took their long distance but I have IDT - 4.9 cents a minute anytime anywhere in North America. I wont switch. The increase in long distance fees outweigh the savings.
My god is the US behind in high speed costs. I'm surprised, I mean, I thought the southern country below would have had more technological advancements in the wiring and lines than up here!

I think the US is more advanced in corporate greed. This isn't a technological issue.

Canada is famous for being the most "wired" nation. We've got better and cheaper broadband internet available to sticksville, Manitoba than many US cities 50 times their size.
Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.
I got the same. True it's mad stable, but all of u r making me feel bad!
To get anything near those speeds I'd pay like $200/ month which I'm not cool with- waste of money. Hmm, my friends next door have a dual T1.....maybe I can tap in?
Hilbert space is a big place.
The cable provider in my area stinks. No digital cable and very few channels compared to satellite. I had cable TV and switched to satellite. We love our satellite TV.
Cable internet access costs the same as Verizon DSL- $49.95/month. If I have basic cable TV the price drops to $39.95/month. Basic cable is about $9.95/month last time I checked.
Looks like DSL and cable providers here keep the prices pretty well controlled.
Lol, where r u? We got some of that sh!t too. My specific region tho recently got digital cable (or were they planning to hmm).
Hilbert space is a big place.
O, and I'm a cheap ass- I got an antenna! hehehe.
Hilbert space is a big place.
Just got 2 mbit down/384kbit up cable for $45/month thru Time-Warner cable (Roadrunner) here, last month. The good part is that I am the only one on my node so far, and my node is in the same building as the DS3 backbone uplink, AND they are both only about 8 blocks from me! WHOO HOO!!!
However, my cap seems to be set at 3mbit/512kbit, as every time i bandwith test, I keep coming up over limit every time. Albeit, I am loving the "Extra" bandwidth....hehehe. God knows what I can do with it tho!
I love being able to host UT2K3 as if I were on a LAN! LOL!!

I'm in New Jersey and I when we had a new roof put on the house 3 years ago I told the roofer to leave my antenna.
If I have to I'll go back to 8 channels of louzy reception.
Welcome to speedy posting. Now you'll be able to keep up with me and Rob.

Do you live in the boonies? I live in Mercer County NJ and I have Cablevision which provides Optimum Online. I only pay $35/month for great service.
| Quote : The good part is that I am the only one on my node so far |
I know how that feels. When I first got cable about 3 years ago my speeds were ridiculous. I was getting anywhere from 800kb/s to 1.5mbits/s down and up to 500+ up. But more and more people found out about broadband service and signed up. I can still reach 500k+ down but my upload is down to 100k. What is the fastest connection going these days? Is it OC3 or something else?
<font color=blue>I'm an AllTurd Beast!</font color=blue>
I live in Essex. Cablevision is the cable monopoly in my area. I had so many problems with them I switched to digital satellite TV. I know their Optimum Online service is rated very highly.
You must be a Cablevision subscriber. The price for Optimum Online drops if you are.
Optimum Online is currently charging $49.95/month for non-Cablevision subscribers. $44.95/month for Cablevision subscribers. Additional computers are $44.95/month.
<A HREF="http://www.optimumonline.com/index.jhtml;jsessionid=FTCOM2PFRKUU0CQLARQCF3QKBMCGCI5G?pageType=pricing" target="_new">Optimum Online Pricing</A>
They are offering a special right now. First 3 months $19.95 and a $50 savings bond if you sign up before the end of March. But the $44.95/month for each additional computer kills the deal.
How did you get $35/month?
That's what they make routers for. Just pick up a router and split the signal. That's what I do. When I signed up it was hella cheap at $29.99/month then it recently went up to $35/month and that's where I've been since. What kind of problems were you having?
<font color=blue>I'm an AllTurd Beast!</font color=blue>
I have a hub to share internet with the other computer. It's not the way to really do this, but I've had it for years. I might just get a crossover cable. Or make one.
<font color=red>
<A HREF="http://kevan.org/brain.cgi?dhlucke" target="_new">The French are being described as cheese-eating surrender monkeys.</A></font color=red>
More and more people are getting cable internet around here and still my speed can get to its max... looks like with the limits the shared connection is large enough to keep everyone pleased.
My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on
I had cable TV service with Cablevision. Never Optimum Online. The problems I had were with cable TV service.
First off, I never had a problem with my TV or VCR before I got Cablevision. Cablevision uses a decoder box for cable TV. In their quest to find people pirating their service they send electronic "bullets" through their lines. I'm no electrical engineer. But after getting their service installed a TV and VCR became "fried." I called Cablevision and they swore their "bullets" had nothing to do with it. Just a coincidence?
Secondly their customer service and channel selection was terrible. The price was too high and their installation people didn't know much about installation.
We purchased a picture-in-picture TV. A big screen. I wanted to watch separate channels with the picture-in-picture. I had to tell the installers it would take two decoder boxes and show them how to wire it. Then they wanted to charge me an extra $10 delivery fee because I needed another box they already had on their truck!
I was constantly being charged for pay-per-views I didn't order or watch. I had to file complaints with the FCC to get refunds.
Their customer service people were very rude. And I'm pretty easy to get along with, believe it or not.
So when DirecTV became available in my area I grabbed it. No more Cablevision. 150 channels + 100 pay-per-view movie channels (which I still don't use but they're there if I want them). And I installed a dual LNB distribution multi-switch so I can hook up four TV's (or three TV's and my computer) to the satellite dish. All digital picture and dolby 5.1 sound on the shows that broadcast dolby signal.
SWEET!
And I thought of getting Optimum Online and splitting the access to two computers. But Cablevision calls that piracy. They want their extra $44.95/month. Verizon Online DSL gives instructions on how to hook up a router and split their broadband on as many machines as you like.
<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by bob_dn on 03/14/03 05:32 PM.</EM></FONT></P>
Well cablevision is dumb if they think they can charge people an extra $49/month for using a router. If it were truly piracy they wouldn't be selling routers openly in every Best Buy, CompUSA, or any other store that sells pc's. When I get my own place I think I will go the satellite route also. I want to get Tech TV so bad but none of the cable providers have it on their line-up. Bummer.
<font color=blue>I'm an AllTurd Beast!</font color=blue>
Speaking of routers, I think all lunksys routers should die. My friends have one, it never stops bugging em (and I;m the one who has to fix it). It changes settings by itself. Had a few probs like that with other linksys hehe. I gotta a netgear- wasd a b!tch to setup and I almost smashed it in it pissed me off so much, but now it works and I can forget about it.
Hilbert space is a big place.
I have a lynksys and I've had no problems so far. Although I will be trying to configure it to work with a ftp program shortly. That may prove to be a daunting task. I use a router for my pc and my xbox live acct. Although I don't play xbox live to much because there aren't many online games out for it yet.
<font color=blue>I'm an AllTurd Beast!</font color=blue>
Which model? I mean they're pretty good routers for the price, I just get pissed at it from time to time. At least it sets up without a hassle hehe.
Hilbert space is a big place.
