I'm getting a new phone this week and I know in the store they will transfer
over contact information. However, will they transfer over any games and
downloaded ringtones I have on my phone? It seems to me like they should do
so as I've already paid for these things and own them. What have others
encountered?

Nope, games and tones will continue to be "owned" on your old phone.

Only your contact information.

However, <G>, many phones will work with PC software that will allow you to
transfer your ringtones and wallpaper through your PC. You can also
transfer your contact list and avoid paying VZW the transfer fee. You will
need to buy a data cable for your phone though.

I was at a verizon store today to get my new motorola 265 phone. They had
placards all over the place advertising they can transfer your contacts to a
new phone for $10. To transfer ur tones it would be $15.

If they're charging $10 to do it, forget it. I'll do it myself.

I simply refused to pay them and they did the transfer for nothing.
