Alan,

Thanks for your input on 14 April. I have a ASUS P4P800
Deluxe mother board and Win XP. In the BIOS the parallel
port settings have been progressively changed from EPP to
Bidirectional to EPR to Normal but it makes no difference.
That is, if the machine is booted up and the printer does
not have paper in the bin at the beginning, it is
impossible to get it to print without re-booting. Jobs
just stay indefinitely in the printer queue (until re-
booting). In the control panel the printer icon will
have "out of paper" beside it even though the bin is full
of paper and the printer normal light is correctly lit.

If it is started up without paper, you can delete the
printer and then re-install it. In the control panel the
printer icon will show printer "ready" but it still will
not print. The only way is to re-boot.

If the PC is booted up with paper in the printer, you can
empty the paper bin, re-add paper, etc and the printer
operates flawlessly. Therefore I find it hard to believe
that the printer cable (and I tried two) could be
deficient but I am opened minded on this. If I need a new
printer cable, please advise the specification for it.

Any further thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
