I have a compaq prosignia 320. i had to use the quick restore disk
and now the modem doesn't work. There are no installed modems in the
control panel-modem properties. i tried installing a generic modem on
both com1 and com2 but there is no dialtone when using either port.
can someone tell me what port is is used for the modem and what type
the modem is? compaq's web site says its 56K but the documentation
with the computer seems to idicate its slower. compaq's web site has
modem drivers. will this software automatically select the port or
only install the drivers?

Go to your control panel and look at the Modem section to see if there are
any installed there. If there are, uninstall them and reinstall using the
drivers from Compaq.

That should do the trick.

Hope this helps
