I just upgraded my ME Gateway computer to XP, and find my printer
makes an up-to several minutes delay between having a print job sent
to it and the printing happening. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling,
and downloading X83 drivers, and get the same results each time. I do
not have the option "print directly to printer" installed (it defaults
to spooling). This problem does not occur when I have the XP laptop
send a print job.

It is a Lexmark X83 printer... once it prints, it prints the way it
used to, except it is splotchy output from black cartridge under fast
printing.

If you kept the printer connected during the upgrade you have corrupted the
drivers.

You need to do a COMPLETE uninstall and reinstall.... AND it's a Lexmark...
see Bruce Sanderson's instructions for how to blitz the drivers... and
ensure you take special note of his steps 14 through 16.
