Computer will not shut down!

I just put together a machine with Fic va503+,amd k6 2 500,western 20 gigdrive, 128 megs of ram, and win 98se.Now when I go to shut the machine down it will always restart even when clicking the shut down button. Any suggestions????? thanks John

I think there is a shutdown patch for windows (it’s for fast CPU not giving the hard drive time to write).
Hit your windows update and give it a try.

This has happened to me before and I had to turn it off by either switching off the power supply or pulling the plug until I figured out what was wrong -- turns out I just had the power button connector to the motherboard backwards...

It may be that fast shutdown is enabled.
Goto Start, Run then type "msconfig" (without the speech marks.)
You should now have a new window. Bottom right of this window is ADVANCED botton , click it.
Check that the box DISABLE FAST SHUTDOWN is checked. Reboot.

If this doesn't fix it then sorry I have no more suggestions.
