[EQ1] some details for this summer...

I've been getting word from my guildie who knows a programmer that EQ1
will be getting some majoe overhaul this summer. About 45% of all
zones will be getting some facelifts (probably like Lavastorm a while
ago) and lots of new quests. The facelift will be done just before
the next expansion comes out mid summer. Overall it will make EQ1
graphics in line with EQ2

I don't know about the expansion as DoN is just coming out soon but if
this is all true, it'd be a great way to try and get players back.
Those on dialup would have to wait a long time to download updates and
those who still uses older computer or outdated graphic card may need
to upgrade.

Also some servers will merge (not the PvP) but what merges depends on
the server's population.

Oh yeah it was mentioned there are currently 1.3 million EQ1
subscribers. That's more than I thought.

I'd almost believe it. They've got to be pretty desperate by now.

Maybe 1.3 million accounts? I can't imagine there being that many
*active* and certainly not that many active and in use!

Desperate for .... subscribers? Where are you getting your information?

I believe the most reliable source for MMOG subscription information is MMOGCHART.COM.
Sir Bruce has not posted any recent updates to the subscription numbers for EQ, EQII and
WoW.

I hope this is true, as it would mean they read my mind. I love the EQ2
graphics, and while EQ2 itself is a good game, I'd always choose EQ1's
gameplay over EQ2...my exception being that, as shallow as this is, EQ2
is a lot easier on the eye. In fact in some ways it's literally easier
on the eye, as EQ1 seems to bring me out in headaches quite easily, and
I've noticed this may be because I'm having trouble adjusting gamma to a
suitable level for my vision to accomodate comfortably. It's either too
bright or too dark :-(

However I've strayed from the point, if that many zones could be
converted to the way Lavastorm is right now, it would give me a great
incentive to spend a little more time in the game. Like I said, shallow
but true. That said, I don't consider Lavastorm to be "in line with
EQ2", even though it is a great improvement.

Of course, this could lead me to debate why I spend my time in a game I
consider somewhat inferior to it's predecessor instead of putting time
into the game I prefer :) Think that's for a different post.

1.3 million total sold over 6 years I'd believe - 1.3
million current active accounts? No - since it was
470,000 near it's peak, no way.

Well, if nothing else that would ensure I never try and go back.

That's about 2 degrees too much separation to be truly valuable, but any
tidbit helps, I guess :)

That's a very large number of facelifts. I might even say an unbelievable
number. Either these will be incredibly cookie-cutter jobs, with a designer
spending no more than a few days on each, or most "facelifts" will be
near-trivial changes.

>The facelift will be done just before

I hope this means texture and overall quality, not in any specific of
bubble-faced cartoon sameness.

That's more than any source I've seen, by a factor of 3. I'd believe 1.3
million characters, or 1.3 million accounts ever created (including the
freebie friend/phisher accounts).

Whoever said 1.3M subscribers is misinformed, or the statistic has been
mangled in the retelling.

Can I have your account then? I could pay to get it reactivated, check
the toons. If they aren't worth it I'd transfer stuff around. Or if
the toons are worth it I'd take it as upgrade to 3 boxing from 2
boxing ;)

Nope - Mair and Bos are retired -- I like 'em that way. Think of
it as my way to get a little of the vastly inflated gold supply
out of Lanys' economy.

The accounts are always worth it. Have you seen how much Essence
Emeralds sell for? Do you realize how many you can get from a level 65-ish
character if you sac them all the way down? Cha-ching!

I think it is virtually impossible to have that many active players even
given that alot of people 2 box or morebox...

If there was even half the number I wouldnt be logging on and sitting lfg
for 3 hours after going round checking all the zones where people tend to
go, ie WoS, MPG, NC, BoT, Solro and so on...

6 months ago I would rarely wait even 5 minutes for at least 2 offers after
going on lfg tool...now I am quite often only person on there... And when I
say dead zones I mean no-one in them, nada, zip. Logged on yesterday and
there was 11 people in PoK including me....

This is on Xev server btw

Must be a dying server or something. I'm on Vazaelle and on some
afternoons and evenings, there are often 80-120 people in PoK alone.
My allied guilds tried to form a hedge raids for those who don't have
the flag and within 15 minutes there were 27 peoples waiting. We
didn't advertise to anyone outside the alliance and some people had to
volunteer to leave as there is a limit of 18 in hedge.

Sounds like your server is on the way out. I'm on Stromm and it's
thriving - always over 100 peeps in pok and the bazaar usually has 300-400
traders up. Not too difficult to get groups either.

Just make 2 raids instead, you can run 2 or 3 simultaneously.

I guess SoE's efforts to burn down Norrath and start over have failed.
