You can record your own ringtones on the new LG VX8000 for free. I just
bought one on the 1st and they basically told me how to do this when I
bought it. Take an MP3 player, CD player, walkman, etc. I suppose you can
even plug into a PC or stereo. I'm using an MP3 player so I'll explain with
that. I took a cable with two stereo headphone plugs at both ends (1/8"
size, I think). I went to radio shack and bought an adapter to convert one
end to 2.5mm which is what the plug is on the VX8000. On the phone, I go to
Get Tunes and Tones and choose Record New. Then I start playback on the MP3
player and immediately hit record on the phone. I record about 30-45
seconds worth since I'm not really sure how long the ring lasts when
receiving a call. I also can't listen to the output from my MP3 player at
that same time I'm recording so it sometimes takes a few tries to get the
volume right. If I turn the volume up on the mp3 player, it distorts the
sound when I playback on the phone. Yes, I know this is a bit tedious, but
it's free and I can use much better sounding mp3s rather than simple
ringtones. Oh yeah, did I mention it's free? I'll keep doing it this way
until I can get some sort of USB cable to transfer tones (and pics to and
from the phone).
