I dropped and broke my Samsung A310. I'm off my current plan and am
paying month-to-month until I decide which Family Plan I want to renew
under, and probably then only a year, so Verizon won't be giving me any
phones.

So, I need to buy a simple, cheap replacement or alternative that will
work well in NYC. I don't need anything special -- no color, ringtones,
camera -- just good connection and decent battery life.

Where should I look to get a good phone at a good price quick?

Thanks!

Well, if you're off your current plan and month to month
you would be eligible for the subsidized price on a new
phone. Although it sounds like you're looking for an
inexpensive *temporary* phone?

The obvious place to look for a less expensive phone is Ebay. Verizon
will activate it for free or they have on my past 5 phones I bought on
Ebay....

Quick? no where

Ebay is the place. Nokia 3285. Nokia 5185. I use a Motorola 270c with the
bluetooth b ack. Best speakerphone, wireless headset and analog when I
travel.
It is so easy to go on the
Verizon site and register your phone. Alltel or Verizon are fine. Other
carriers, no.
