Anyone who's been looking at HSFs lately has run across some info on The Core from http://www.cpufx.com ... It's big, it cools, and it Looks Good.

But is it too big? What happened to all the AMD specs which dictate a 300gram weight limit for an HSF? The Core is 500 grams. I'd love to buy one of these high-priced units, afterall, they look great, but isn't a 500 gram HSF a danger? If I add in the copper shim, it's bound to be even heavier.

Someone talk to me.....

Hey Denver, your comment on weight is right on. I don't care how good it cools, it's not worth trashing a 200 dollar cpu. The WBK-38 seems to me to be the best cooler on the market. It cools very well, but stays within AMD's wieght spec. The core is cool as a look to the future, but nothing more. At that price I'd get a WBK-38, some A.S.2 and a shim, while still getting great cooling and staying within AMD's weight limit. The fan might be annoying(I don't think so), but atleast it works within spec. I'll stick with my old slot cooler, Laterz.

I thought the weight spec was to prevent damage while shipping or transport.
If a HSF is connected through the pre formed holes in the board around the socket(like the Swiftech MC462),I would think that the weight wouldnt matter as much.
Are the chips really that fragile?

Here is a reveiw for the Swiftech 462 this thing sounds awesome! It too is over the AMD weight spec.
