Can I increase the time to negotiate a connection

I can't send faxes to an automatic fax service because the Audex msg
is too long on the other end before the negotiation process starts. Is
there a way that I can change how long my computer will try to connect
to the other fax machine before my computer hangs up?
I am using the Microsoft Fax on my Windows XP Professional machine?

Add enough commas (each comma is a 3 second or so delay) to the end of the
phone number to let the Audex message finish before your modem starts to
negotiate.
