I am looking at a non-working Presario 1200 for a friend. A green light is lit
when power is conected (from the brick), but nothing else works - it cannot be
turned on. Maybe a fuse, maybe a bad power-on switch.. or something else.
So I got myself a Torx 8 screwdriver and undid the 6 screws I could see in the
uinderside - but there is something else keeping the case together, towards the
back.
Opening the lid to the RAM compartment of course did not help.

I have two questions:
1) how do I disassemble the case?
2) the non-working problem may be common for Presario 1200s (though Googling did
not find anything) - has anyone some idea what may cause it?

Regards,
Occam

Youl could start with this:

possibly replacing the CMOS battery might work...earlier Compaq laptops would
not boot on A/C if it were dead...not sure if that's the case with the 1200....

Sorry but can't help with exactly where that's located on the 1200 or how to
open it and get to it....

There is a huge user forum at HP/compaq about this very problem. Many of us
are affected by it but no one as yet has figured it out. I believe it is
called Compaq Presario wont turn on (I know that wont is misspelled but that
is how it was entered). It goes back to 8/27/02 and there are quite a few
of us with this problem. Here is the web address:

Good luck

HP/Compaq has closed the thread after I tried to post the fix 4 times.

I have done my best to explain and duplicate the thread here:

I know this is SO old and you might not even see this, but any chance you can recall what the fix was? My 1200 has green lights but doesn't make a peep or start at all, it's stone dead. No fan, screen, nothing.
