Athlon-B 1ghz and 133fsb with A7V133

Hello all,

I just got an Athlon-B 1ghz and an ASUS A7V133 motherboard. My intent is to unlock the CPU and lower the multiplier to 7.5 so I can run the FSB at 133. I used a pencil and magnifying glass to close the L1 bridges and booted up without any changes just to see what it would post at. Well, it posted at 950 Mhz with a 100 Mhz FSB. This, of course, annoys me and I will have to take it up with the place I bought it from.

But anyway, I then changed the multiplier to 7.5 through the BIOS and bumped up the FSB to 133mhz. Upon rebooting, the machine locked up to the point I had to pull out the power cord. So, my question is, how do you know if you've succesfully unlocked the CPU? Since I'm able to change it in the BIOS, I figured that I had unlocked it. Can I assume that because this simple change didn't post that I had not successfully unlocked it? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should proceed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Based on my experience from the past 2 days with the same MOBO.

With a locked CPU, you can "make the changes" in the settings in the Bios, but if they do not match what the CPU wants, then it wont post. The only way I have got round this is to reset the mobo (rtfm). Also, you say you have to pull the power.. did you try holding the power switch for 5 seconds? Mine would always turn off by doing this when its hung.

Why did the 100fsb annoy you? its the default for that mobo...

Re knowing if the CPU unlocked, I knew mine worked cos I first tried at the cpu'd default settings, then tried LOWERING the settings to make sure it was all OK. If the CPU is not unlocked, the machine tends to hang if you change the bios.
