TrueType fonts?

Can anyone tell me the difference between 'classic'
TrueType fonts and "Outlined" TrueType fonts? Under
C:/Windows/Fonts, the little icon is a TTF for the former
and a script O for the latter. Either seems to work in
most applications, but a program called PDF Creator does
not like the older TTF ones. Any ideas? Thanks!

Do you possibly mean Open Type fonts when you refer to "Outlined"?

I don't know anything about PDF Creator. As something off the top of my
head, I suppose one could open the misbehaving TrueType font in a font
editor such as Font Lab and save it as an Open Type font. That might reform
the file into something PDF Creator will use.

As for the difference(s) between the two font file formats and features,
best to look to authoritative resources.

Erm, 'O' doesn't mean 'outlined' it stands for 'OpenType' which means that
these fonts are cross-platform (i.e they can be used in Windows and under
the Mac OS without any form of conversion. I don't know about any other
platforms, e.g. Linux).

PDF Creator is rubbish. If you want a cheap way to create PDFs, suggest you
take a look at PDF X-Change (www.docu-track.com). It's only about £40 and is
the best PDF creator I've used that wasn't the original.

Cerridwen: Thanks for the info and for the link to PDF X-
Change. They now have a 'lite' version for $20 that would
fill my needs nicely. I'll download their 1-day demo and
see how it performs with the older TrueType fonts, which
worked under Adobe's PDF Writer just fine. Cheers, Jim.
