My Hp deskjet 3550 works fine under a XP user account with administrator's privilege. However under a limited user account, the device status box does not appear on screen while printing. Moreover the user's guide and the
3500 printer assistant are not accessible, although appearing in the list of programs, the corresponding windows
remaining blank on screen.
According to HP, the issue could be due to the permissions and policies set on the
partition.

Is this XP Home or XP Pro? Is Norton Antivirus software installed on the
PC?

The problem with the Limited Account not printing is usually seen in XP
Home, but try:
a) Going to the Control Panel, click on Printers & Faxes and right click on
the Printer..... in the Advanced tab, click on Print Direct to Printer
instead of the default, Print using Print Spooler.
