Will heatsinks help?

I currently can OC my CardExpert GeForce2 MX Golden Sample
from 175/166 (core/memory) to 250/225 (why OC the core doesn't make a difference?) with 800mhz 200FSB T-Bird. I have a FAN on the core but nothing on my memory. If I will cut a standard Socket 1 heatsink (for old Pentiums 1) in 4 pieces and put each one on my memory chip with adding ARCTIC SILVER 2 thermal paste will that give me at least 250/235???(I have a cold house and conndition blows right into the case)Will that give more frames or I should buy 1.3Ghz ? Please, HELP!
THNK, YOU!

If you clock your fsb up to 133, and drop your multiplier, you'll get some extra cpu power. The mx just doesn't have the fill rate to keep up. But the good news is that any money you spend on heatsinks/fans, you can transfer to a GTS. If you don't have heatsinks on your memory, yeah....putting that heatsink on them will help out a lot. Having a 120 or two 80's blowing on the card helps out too, but you probably won't have the clearance unless you have a tower case.

You're at the center line on your processor and vid card. You're processor is being used just about max, so you won't really see any increase in frame rates going up to a faster chip. You'll see a good boost if you get a GTS or Ultra, but you'll want another 100mhz on that processor in order to use the card max. I'd upgrade your video card long before putting a new cpu in. $25 will get you the extra 100mhz on your cpu, if that's stock 800.

Yeah, right. I don't need GTS or ULTRA, I bet Nvidia will make something like GeForce3 MX, which will be much cheaper but with faster speed. In games like Quake 3 ARENA my friend with hiw 1.2Ghz(CardExpert GeForce2 MX) gets up to 37%more(I counted) fps (that's what I need). I cannot put 133Mhz FSB as I have A7V and max. I get 110Mhz if I set my pc133 to pc100, but gives me less frames and longer game loads. I wonder if I am able to put 1.3Ghz athlon on my A7V, it supports only 12.5 multiple. If a videocard works stable without glitches at 250/225 should I run this way all the time? I set to 250/225 only when I want to play powerful 3D games like Q3A, but after I set it to 200/200. Am I a moron? Should I always keep it at 250/225. Some people get 250/250 with cardExpert GeForce2 MX, but when I set it to that clock it just locks up, how would the heatsinks help???? Does the RAM get so hot? It's my Birthday, so PLEASE HELP!!

The ram gets hot enough to start causing tearing. Yes heatsinks will help. You can make your own 'what-in-the-UHHHH!-is-that' heatsink that will help. Go down the local hardware warehouse, and pick up a 1/16 inch plate of aluminimum. It's usually 8x14, and runs $7 with tax. Use a dremel to cut around everything that is 'taller' than the ram chips, and put some radio-smack silicone on each chip, along with a single drop of superglue. Mix it up, and put a small amount of weight on the plate. After it dries, you'll have spread out the heat considerably.

Man your problem is not the vid card. You say you have to put your ram at 100MHz to run the FSB at 110MHz?? Well then you got crap RAM. I got the same plain old A7V. Only difference is I'm runnin Mushkin REV2. Mushkin's kinda expensive but I'm sure you can find some Micron CAS2 7E somewhere for about $110 for 256MB. This'll do you plenty. My FSB is at 113MHz (TBird 1000 @ 1130MHz) that puts my RAM running at 150MHz in CAS2. Granted the Micron won't go that high but it may handle 140MHz (FSB @ 105MHz).

also start benchmarking your configurations to make sure what you do is actually increasing performance. You'll notice, if you do the RAM swap, about an 80-100% increase in speed in 3DMark2000. Dont use 2001 since it is more for the Geforce3 and doesn't give a good comparisons for those systems currently available.

Dude, my RAM is crap (thanks to PCGAMER that recomeded it)
I bought 256 pc133 RAM for only $45, I am confused about CAS, I can put to 3-2-2, like 7.5ns? CAS2.5? I just want to know if higher overclocking will give more frames on my 800Mhz. I'm not getting new card until Christams anyway (NO need, Tribes2 goes up to 112fps and down to 28fps respectively, with guru3d overclocker I set Quality settings and disable FSAA and O'clock to 225/225). If I set RAM to 100Mhz will give me less fps? I have 192mb of Kingmax CAS2.5 and 256mb of unknown company(probly homemade) CAS2.5, so together I have 448mb pc133 RAM. O o'clocked my CPU to 1000Mhz and it gave ONLY 3 MORE FRAMES so I set it back to 800Mhz and it good enough for me. I get in Q3A-78fps, MDK2-86fps(I tested on quality settings(1024x768x32) with disabled FSAA and O'clocked to 225/225). Will NVIDIA make GeForce3 MX or cheap version of GeForce3? how faster will GeForce2 MX400 be? Will Dynamix and Sierra solve problem with Unhalted Exception in Tribes2? Will I be able to game at 1024x768x32 with highest settings till the end of the 2001? What is IRQ ACPCI? (I think I'm asking a lot of questions in the wrong place..............)
THANK YOU!
