Hi,

I shall be glad if someone can inform me if I can use the Verizon EVDO
Wireless Internet service for newsgroups.

What are the settings for Outlook Express 6? And what username or password
do I use?

(I am talking about the Verizon usenet service here!)

Thanks in advance for any information.

Don't really know what you are asking.. Verizon doesn't have anything to do
with USENET.

BroadbandAccess is the same as NationalAccess.

vzw evdo is my only internet connection. I use news.individual.net
for a usenet provider (free) and softhome.net for a smtp mail server
(also free). my 80/mo evdo account is my only cost.

If you want web based usenet there are many newsgroups services
available.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. I shall be looking up the suggestions soon!

I apologize for reposting this message - my news-server, Teranews,
oftentimes keep timing out and not letting my posts go through! That was why
I wanted to know what settings to use for news.verizon.net, actually.

Regards.

Shiva

Hi,

Thanks for your input. Every ISP does have recommended server and log-in
settings for accessing newsgroups through a client like Outlook Express or
other.

Verizon's wireless Internet is not really the same as a "standard" ISP and
does not give a subscriber a username and password! One just - connects!

Verizon does have its news-server at news.verizon.net available to its
regular ISP customers - DSL or dial-up.

Regards.

Shiva

Are you looking for a news server that is available from all sorts of ways?
(including the cell/EVDO?).. If so, I am using the free german news server
(free, but you have to sign up, and get a registration... go to
www.individual.net Lots of groups ((about 35,000+, no binaries however)))

Hi,

Thanks for the response! I did submit my application for registration with
news.individual.net a little while ago (somebody else suggested it too).

It seems like a workable idea as I am not interested in binaries and
attachments anyway.

And I already have OE configured for two Microsoft servers - their standard
free server and the newer subscription group for 64-bit systems. Besides the
Teranews server (One-time $4.95 fee and with 80,000 groups), but their
server sometimes, for reasons unknown, does not connect through EVDO!

Regards and thanks again.

Shiva

Interesting about the Terranews.. I use Giganews (for the binaries) thru
EVDO but have never had a problem connecting whether
cell/ethernet/WiFi/dial-up etc.
If you figger out why Terranews has a problem, let us know..

Hey Marc, thanks for all your help. Individual.net works great, for
reading and followup. I've been trying all kinds of ways, but I can't get
it to send an email with the posting. It may be an ISP thing though,
Lavanet's very careful about spammers using their servers to send out
mail, and apparently, my mail coming from a cellphone using
individual.net, looks like spam. But, it's really no biggie; I don't
really like duplicating email with posts anyway.

Have you tried using the browsers send feature? (IE at least has send off
the file menu), and you can send page by email to an email address. Usually
I send a post to myself for archiving, but I can send it to others...I do
the same in my newsreader (forward it as email to myself for archiving or to
someone else for info...

No efficient way to get them off of my VX8000 if they did.

Hi,

The individual.net set-up works perfectly. Thanks a lot!

Registration and set-up was very easy and quick.

Regards.
