HP Photosmart installation problems

I have tried everything I know. I have had 5 different
live chat sessions with HP, 1 phone assistance and they
haven't helped. I have given full permissions to certain
registry keys under usb device, installed numerous ways
including: the cd that came with the printer, downloading
the software from HP Support, using Windows wizard, etc,
etc. Nothing has worked. I even restored my system to a
date prior to the first failed installation. Problem is
that the system cannot find the file specified, cannot
install this hardware, failed to complete. I don't think
XP is recognizing, or downloading properly, the HP
drivers. The series number is 7760W. If anyone out
there can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
