1GHZ to 1.45GHZ

Is this typical? I purchased a Retail boxed 1Ghz Athlon and the A7V133A Mobo. I have a FOP38 heatsink/Delta Fan Combo and just overclocked my processor to 1450mhz (10x145.) I have been running it at 1200mhz (9x133) for several weeks without a problem. This seems a little too easy. Should I be running some programs to see if the system is truly stable? Here's my stats
1GHZ @ 1200 (typically) 9x133
384MB PC133 Ram (Plain NEC)
Leadtek Geforce 2 GTS 32MB 1024x768 32bit color
Monster Sound MX400
2 x 30GB WD ATA66/5400 RPM
52x CD
4x4x24 HP CDRW
Surfboard Cable Modem with Ethernet Connection
also have a 3dcool.com exhaust fan directly below the heatsink fan on my Geforce2 card.

By the way, the system would not even boot up @ 1500mhz and gave me an error message @ 1480mhz.

You're a lucky little tool.
Run SETI or some 3D game or something for a while and see how stable it is, and, if nothing happens then, you're fine. (And lucky.)

You're probably one of the lucky ones who got a 1GHz chip with AXIA stepping. Can you read us all the writing on the chip itself? (the core of the chip)

I am the first and only one with a 16MB GeForce2 GTS graphics card!

one of the overclocking sites (sorry cannt remember which or where) has details of average speeds reached of various steppings of AMD chips. some people with a AXIA or AVIA stepping are reaching 1.6 aircooled. I have a AHIA stepping the limits of which seem to be 1250, It's stable @ 9x133 or 8.5x140, the limiting factor on my FSB is most likely the shitty no-name pc133 memory.
Sounds like you are in for one fast ride, try the fan speed mod on your FOB38, it should help with the noise levels!

I forgot to mention that I played Rune for a couple of hours @1450.....Unfortunately, the temperature did get up to 116 degrees. The lady at the computer store knew that I was going to overclock and she told me that it was the chip that was easily overclockable. Seems that she keeps up with this kind of stuff. I think the fact that it was a retail processor probably helped too. My combo before this was an A7V and a 900mhz OEM Athlon Socket A. If I was lucky, the damn thing might post 1050. And if I played any games it would crash. The reason I have the A7V133 is that while attempting to install the 1GHZ the damn clip on my FOP38 broke and my screwdriver slipped and gouged my motherboard.

Hmmm....I really hate the idea of taking off the heatsink and cleaning off the goop. Especially after the slipping screwdriver incident. Perhaps after I finish packing up everything else for my pending move I will take a look.

hehe, ouch.

try running 3dmark2001. it is pretty good at average stability. my results have been, if it runs through a 3dmark2001 bench, then i will never crash (well im on a win2k machine, youre results may vary if you run win9x)

need for speed high stakes won't run on a good system, it has to be outstandingly stable.
I've had processors pass every other test, wouldn't run high stakes.

why, oh WHY, is the world run by morons?

I have a 1ghz AXIA 'C' T-bird and have posted at 150x9.5 havn't tried anything higher yet. I just purchased and installed a Delta fan for my Alpha Pal-6035, ran Seti@Home at stock 133x7.5 for about 10 hours and my temp was at 33C when I checked it. So I'm now running at 133x9.5 1.26ghz and I'm going to try this for a while. Then I'll crank her back up to 150fsb and go from there. Maybe we are just two lucky dudes.

I just upped to 142x10 CAS2 latency with fastest memory settings. Can't go higher without lowering FSB. Maybe I'll try to lower to CAS3?? Think that would get it any higher? By the way, my idle surfing and whatnot temp is at 27.6C most at 28C. I would expect my full load Seti@Home for 8 hours to be around 34C but will test when I sleep. Also I'm at 1.85v, might see if I can get 1.42 at 1.75v

just curious, what climate do you people live in? where i live its 28c outside during the day, so there no way i can get my processor that cool. hell when it first starts up after sitting for a couple days its like around 30c. i find it very hard that you can have a 28c temp after computer has been on for a while idle. what are you guys using to measure temps?

question for whoever, I just got an axia stepping 1gig athlon C, I'm running it @ 10x133 right now, on a kt7a-raid mobo, the temps that the abit software included are reporting are like 33c-cpu/27c system, is this normal, I mean hell, my duron @ stock speed runs like 15-20 hotter than that most of the time, usually sitting around 45c-50c.. so I can't help but think that this sw is misreporting a bit. In bios, the story is pretty much the same, cept if I leave it in bios for about an hour (I stepped away for food), when I came back it had risen to a whopping 38c (still pretty damn good hehe), is the diode totally off it's rocker or what?
