My home phone is on Cingular and my work phone is on AT&T (the networks
haven't completely merged yet). Used to be a VZW customer (like 4
years ago) - had to change for work reasons, and frankly, I'm very glad
I did (terrible voice quality, dropped calls all the time - my friends
still on VZW tell me that not a lot has changed in this area). Carrier
zealotry aside, if you want a selection of fully functional BT phones,
you're going to have to look elsewhere.
In some areas, T-Mobile is it, in others, it's Cingular or AT&T. All
of the carriers have trial periods, so if you find you made a mistake,
you can take the phone back and get out of the contract quite easily.
In my area (Southern NJ), Cingular has proven to be an excellent
carrier, at least for my wife & me.
They've got a wide selection of BT-equipped phones. Which one you want
depends on what kind of phone you like.
Do you text a lot? The Nokia 6820 has a nice keyboard. I have this
phone for work.
Do you want "just a phone" that's also got BT? The Nokia 6230 looks
like a great choice too.
Do you want to use iSync with a Mac? The Sony Ericsson T637 "just
works" to iSync over BT. My wife has this phone for her home phone.
Do you only want a clamshell form-factor? The Moto v551 looks like a
good phone. Also there's the Moto RAZR V3, which is a bit more flashy
and chic.
Do you want a smartphone? The Nokia 6620 and Palme Treo 650 are great
choices as well. I'd also mention that the Moto MPx220 looks nice on
paper, but come on - it runs Windoze CE. Like those crashy phones?
Do you want to do mobile email? The BlackBerry 7290 would be an ok
choice as well.

Verizon has the best rated service, and i have little or no problems
out of it. Our customer service is also the best. not me speaking,
thats consumer reports ranking 3 yrs straight. I have "installed" the
moto 710 in a jeep grand cherokee and a toyota prius and both work
great with the bluetooth. now there are some drawbacks to vzw
bluetooth, it is crippled, meaning that basically only the connectivity
to cars and earpieces is enabled. it will not work to transfer pics or
music to a laptop or pc. there is a lawsuit about this in Cali right
now, we shall see what the outcome is. go to a VZW store and look for
someone that will help you out, or if you are in TN give me a holla,
and i will walk you through it! but like the other person said, use
that 15 day trial period and make sure it works great! good luck!

Well, I also understand that the bluetooth problems with VZW include being
unable to load phone directories to the car, and a lot of other functions.
Is that true in your experience?

yea i think that plays into the crippled bluetooth. from what i have
seen data (phone numbers, pics, etc) cant be transferred through the
bluetooth. now thats not personal experience, just what i have read on
other forums and stuff. the phone part works fine, but transferring
stuff is a big question.
