Athlon 900 Back Side Bus

Dear all,

Do Athlon have different back side bus? I tried to set the FSB in the Motherboard to 133 and the CPU couldn't be recognised by the BIOS.

When I set back FSB to 100, everything is all right!

Afterwards, I shorted the L1 Bridge to overclock it to 10.5G HZ by setting the multiplier to 10.5 (100*10.5).

I haven't tried to set the FSB to 133 yet as I am afraid it would damage the CPU.

Right, your cpu may 'not have been recognised' because it was trying to post (power on self test) at 1.2Ghz. Without a voltage increase and good cooling it will probably not post.

The cpu speed is the combination of FSB and multiplier, as you know. This speed will affect the temp, but as far as I know, the Athlons are usually okay to 133FSB providing the mobo supports it.

If you have a KT133 (not A) motherboard, then the chances are that you cannot run over 115-120Mhz FSB due to a limitation on the chipset...

If you want to run @ 133mhz FSB, drop your multiplier down to 7.5 to start with, that will give you 7.5*133mhz=1ghz. Then from there try uping you multiplier or the better route would be to continue uping you FSB.

To get the best performance you want a low Multiplier and a High FSB setting, a system @ 1ghz=7.5*133mhz will perform better than one @ 1ghz=10*100mhz...

im running my 900 at 1120..8x140.ive tried 9x133 and it too wouldnt post..even at 1.85..it will post at 8x133 and other settings but best speed so far is 8x140...im using 1.77 voltage too..abitkt7a mobo..

also like 100mhz said lower multiplier and higher fsb better performance..i can run at and run at 11.5x100=1150 but its better at 8x140..memory is alot faster140 compared to 100
