new ibm r40 2897gwu with windows xp professional ver 2002
sp1 in the cmd area. All windows updates are current.

copy to lpt1 or print does not handle every file to the
printer hp deskjet 500. This is true regardless of the
extension (.txt .log .bas .prn).
Older gwbasic (epson) files print find. Files transferred
from other qbasic processes and files that came on the pc
(such as .log or readme) will not go to the lpt1. The
message is that it copied or is printing but nothing
(just a bit bucket). Do the files have a flag or
permission indicator that is not permitting the new files
to print raw.

I have used a lot of control characters on various
programs and always had to use the copy, print or old dos
edit command to handle these characters. Since windows,
wordpad and notepad and word do not seem to handle this
type of process. Is there another editor that will
handle binary process and allow to go to other printers.
LPT1 is becoming extinct with some new printers.

Thanks in advance.
