Black Screen - no safe mode

Last response: in Windows 8
Share

I just installed Windows 8, the first thing it told me was to update my display driver. I did this and I got a Black Screen, something went wrong.

Restart the PC a couple of times, I hear the Windows boot-up sound but the screen stays black.

Next I try and hit the new SHIFT + F8 to get to the safe mode boot menu, but it doesn't work for me, just keeps booting me into a black screen.

The "automatic" repair feature isn't detecting any problems it seems, so that's not kicking in. The only other thing I've seen suggested is to use the "recovery media", but I used the on-line upgrade and since updating the gfx driver was the first thing it made me do, I've not had a chance to make a recovery disc....

So, what should I do?
