The rumors seem to be true. I got to peek at the new map and basically, on
2/21/05, AC = NSR. Plan are the same, but you need a new contract if your
AC plan is older than 1/16/05.
Everything that is now "Roam" will become "Extended." Nights & Weekends, IN
and LD are Unlimited. Can't find any 'gotchas' on this. No areas (SID's)
seem to be removed or negative.

I wonder how they will handle this with PRLs. Will they have a whole
new set for the new AC plans, otherwise even if we have an older
contract our phone would indicate areas just like the new plan.

Does this mean that if you changed plans, based on the new family share
deals offered on the 17th, if I recall correctly, that your plan will
automatically convert to this, or will it be necessary to call in and change
plans persay, again?

This sounds too good to be true! I have a VERY old NSR plan that I've
been holding onto for dear life because more than anything else I do
not want to incurr roaming charges.
Does this mean that I can finally upgrade to the AC plan and never
have to worry about roaming charges?

The only 'gotcha' I see with the new plans is their restriction on using
data without a data plan. Basically no more MOU.

The way that Cingular/AT&T does it is without any type of PRL. They handle
it with what they call "roaming partners" that they make deals with. If you
are in an area where they are partnered up with another carrier there is no
roaming without a PRL. You won't have to look at your phone to see what the
indicator is, if you have service it is within your plan and if there is no
roaming partner where you are you just have no service there.
If this is done that way maybe I will finally be able to my banner on my

Is this no data or no high speed (QNC) data (National Access)? My contract
started 2/2/05, will I lose low speed data? They changed the buzz words
so many times I'll stick with high speed vs low speed.

1x or QNC? The TOS I found on the site says no 1x access without a 1x data
plan and says you must use QNC.

Cingular is mostly GSM now, and GSM phones don't use PRLs. I believe the
IRDB is similar, though, is it not?

Does this mean that they have sorted things out so that phone can use 1x
for internal apps (GetItNow, picture messaging, Mobile Web) but not for
tethered access? Of course, they could just allow you to connect at 1x
with tethered access, but bill you for the data access.
For many, the no-roam plans will be an improvement. It also appears that
large amounts of rural roaming in Oregon (and in some other places) will
simply be unavailable. We won't know this for sure until some time passes,
PRL is released, and folks gain experience.
i.e. Large amounts of Eastern Oregon have coverage not in the PRL provided
by Cellular One NW. This is a fee-based roam area for AC users, but it's
unclear if someone on the no-roam plan could use that network even if they
wanted to pay roaming fees.
I mean if you complain about roaming fees, there's two ways Verizon can
provide no roaming: One way is to absorb the cost and give it to you, and
the other is to take away your ability to roam.

I am not sure if anyone has seen the prl yet but i think that they made some
of the roaming areas "no service" does anyone know the real answer?

A related question is that if the new AC is a true no roaming plan,
with no coverage removed, then it would have to replace the NSR
plan. Does anyone know if it does?

No coverage gained either. It's about the same as the old AC plan just with
a new name.

What good is it?! This looks like the same coverage map we already have,
except there's "no service" in areas that were previously charged roaming.
And in some areas, (like northern lower michigan) it *appears* to indicate
analog coverage on this plan where there is digital coverage on the old plan
map.
Silly.

You got my point exactly. At the moment, the new "no-roam" plans look like a
downgrade compared to what I have. Thankfully, I am not required to
"upgrade."

I agree! VZW's new no service - I mean no roam - AC plan with no MOU data
definitely looks like a downgrade.
I guess that VZW decided people liked the NO ROAM plans like Cingular &
T-Mobile offer (no service rather than roam). I had the AC plan because I
want a phone to work in as many places as possible. Did not get the NSR
because I don't roam that often and when I do use the phone while roaming I
still come out ahead.

Looking at Rich's interpretation, it looks like AC2 doesn't add anything
in WA/OR - but it takes away some roaming coverage (a few PRL entries, plus
all of the Auto-A roaming)

This new AC2 No Roaming plan seems weird to me. I can't roam in the U.S.
where I was able to roam before but I can now roam in China?
