Unable to install printer driver

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax (More info?)

Hi all, Hope you can help...Unable to install any printer
drivers
in Win XP pro. Installation starts, then stops with
access is denied.
or unable to install, may not work properly..
The print spooler is started and I have admin rights. The
event viewers
gives the following message,

Unable to read the disk performance information from the
system. Disk performance counters must be enabled for at
least one physical disk or logical volume in order for
these counters to appear. Disk performance counters can
be enabled by using the Hardware Device Manager property
pages. Status code returned is data DWORD 0.

I'm not sure what the above refers to, as I don't see
anything about disk performace counters on the DM
property page or I'm looking in the wrong place?

I also had received the following event viewer error
message:

services (440) Unable to write a shadowed header for file
C:\WINDOWS\Security\edb.chk. Error -1032.

As well as:

svchost (656) An attempt to open the
file "C:\WINDOWS\System32\CatRoot2\edb.log" for read /
write access failed with system error 5
(0x00000005): "Access is denied. ". The open file
operation will fail with error -1032 (0xfffffbf8).

The above was solved by changing the security setting on
the that folder.

This problem started sometime durning the windows update
downloads as I haven't installed a printer in about a
year.
