I'm just curious. I know my taste in motherboard brands has changed over the years. I originally started with Tyan, switched to Supermicro, and now I use ASUS exclusively. I am just curious to see what other people are using and their experiences.

I'm surprised that there haven't been any votes for Abit yet?

I have good luck overclocking a 700E to 933MHz on an Asus CUSL-2 :)

ALL of my Gateway PC's have Intel motherboards, which are about the most reliable board I have come across! I hear they are using MSI now. Of coarse Intel boards do not allow much BIOS adjustment, but I am a refurbisher, I get what I can, and I apriciate the extremely low failure rates of the Intel motherboards (less than 1%)! And they do not have compatability issues! Asus, Abit, etc all offer boards with slightly more performance and many more tweaks, but I can't complain about that as a refurbisher-I don't WANT my customers to tweak their systems!

The only Gateways that use proprietary motherboards are the all-in-one PC's book sized PC's, and notebooks. I have never had one. I have never seen any for sale from government agencies, so they do not affect me. Even their old slim case PC's use standard OEM Intel LPS form factor motherboards!
As for PB, they just plain suck.

At least have you used ASUS motherboards yet?

That is odd, just about every intel board I have had sucked and was very unstable. I had Asus boards w/ same chipset worked fine.

Out of the hundreds of Intel motherboards I have worked with (used), 5 were bown completely, the rest worked perfectly, although BIOS adjustments were very limmited.

Did you mean BIOS or PASSWORD of the BIOS?
the answer is yes for them. there is some progs to clean password, some of them work, but i dont use them, it for lammers.
There is some programs for changing BIOS, some of them called "text editor" , or "hex editor".

What idiot would buy that crap?"

Reply to Mordy

There are programs that let you modify BIOS, and might let you force a PIII 700E to run at 933EB spec., but you would have to modify the pins in order to raise the voltage on the processor. Some people have used these programs to modify their memory settings beyond the basic settings in BIOS. But it makes a lot more sense just to buy a board with all the adjustments you want. I get a lot of Intel boards used, I set them up in basic systems, so I do not need any wild adjustment, default settings work fine for a basic system, which is what I usually sell.
