OK, so it's been pointed out to me that I can't fax over
a DSL line because it's digital. That said, I have a DSL
filter with both data and voice connections, so that I
don't can use a phone from the same RJ-11 jack. I also
have the 56k modem that is built into the CPU. Can I
connect the modem to the phone side of the filter, use a
dialup connection and fax that way?

Should work if you're lucky enough to have a compatible analog fax modem
that can both use that line and work with Windows XP Fax.

I would think so; I've faxed from this computer before we
got the DSL, but that was with Windows Me, and Phone
Tools software.
