Hi
After 7 years of intel supporting, I have changed my mind.
I am considering on building an AMD system.
I have an Intel 815EEA with P3-600 now. (anybody wants it? :))

So...
I think I will have a 1200mhz Athlon (266fsb) with 256MB DDR. Which motherboard do You suggest?
ASUS A7A266
MSI K7 Master (unfortunatelly not yet available in hungary)
MSI K7T266 PRO
Or any else at the same price?
Which is the best for overclocking?
Do You suggest any other cpu for overclocking? (1333mhz max. I can buy)
And finally: my tower has only a 230W power supply. Will I need a bigger, or it is enough?

Thank very much,
Daniel Vinko

Take an Asus A7A 266 motherboard, slap on some good DD-Ram, add a 1.0ghz 266fsb with a good HSF......then overclock that puppy to 1.5ghz.

....and you should upgrade to at least a 300watt power supply.

Stick_e_Mouse has the right idea. The A7A266 is probably your best choice, you can avoid a VIA experience that way. I suggest Crucial DDR because 1 member said his non-crucial brand DDR was incompatable. Crucial maintains the highest memory compatability in the industry.
Oh, and I would keep your old sytem together. You can overclock it to 800 by modifying a few pins on the CPU, making it a perfect second system, especially if you have a family.

defenitly go for the asus A7A266, and with this baby you could safely overclock to 1.5 ghz, using you 1.0 athlon off course, but i guess the 1.2 will do just fine. and don't forget good ddr memory.

FatBurger told me in this topic (http://forumz.tomshardware.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=faq¬found=1&code=1) that AMD760 chipset is better.
Now what? A7A266 or some board with AMD760? (ASUS does not have so)
Is it sure that the 1ghz Athlon will go 1.5ghz? Or do I have better chances with 1.2ghz or 1.33ghz?
Is there any sign on the CPU I should seek for (for better overclocking)?
Again,
Thanks for All of You

Geez, don't drag me into this :)

The AMD 761 is better. Compared to the Via KT133. I'm not sure about the Ali chipset, don't know much about it. The A7A266 has more features, though. Check out all the Asus Socket A boards <A HREF="http://www.asus.com.tw/products/Motherboard/socketa.html" target="_new">here</A>.

With an AXIA core, you will have as much luck overclocking a 1.0ghz as with both a 1.2 and 1.33ghz to 1.5ghz(all for less money).

the stepping is the 2nd line on the CPU core:

xxxxxxxxx
AXIAxxxxx
xxxxxxxxx

oh yeah, nothing is garuanteed...depends on your HSF, motherboard, RAM, etc....
but I got my 1.0ghz @ 1.4ghz using the STOCK hsf and was very stable...it could go higher if i got a better hsf.
