I've read a few cases similar to mine but have yet to get success using their procedure.
Problem is that my "\\canon\print" driver/printer will not delete. For the last few days it has said "deleting" under the icon. I've attempted to remove it multiple times, now it either says I cannot access, or it goes into limbo.
I've tried using the "server" function to physically remove the driver, but it tells me that the driver is in use.
Yesterday I tried using the window tool "cleanspl" with abended before finishing and only succeeded in wiping out all of my print drivers. After panic settled down, and restarting the computer this morning, all print drivers are back...go figure...including the still "deleting" canon driver.
I'm fit to be tied, because I cannot add a new driver for the machine.
Your help would be very appreciated on this matter.

Thanks for your respsonse. Unfortunately when I turn off the spooler, the O/S reports that I cannot delete the printer because the spooler is off. When I use the server function, it will not access the subroutine, because the spooler is off.
Still no success. But the "deleting" driver still works on occassion. It just will not let me look at the queue, ie if I open the queue, it quickly flashes that it is empty and goes off the screen. Most frustrating.
I still cannot load a new driver to replace the existing. What would be the procedure to get into the registry and delete any reference to the canon drivers? I'm only guessing at what the next approach to this should be.

I just thought of something. If I stop the spooler, the deleting function for the driver (which has already been activated) is still attempting to complete - even though it has not been successful. I am guessing that this is the operation still registered as opening / modifying the printer driver and therefore will not let me remove the driver in question. So.... how do I stop this service and what service is it?

The printer is actually a multifunction photocopier, Canon GP200E. Originally I was using the PCL5 driver, but could not get the full printer/copier functionality from it. Installing the driver for the IR210 worked to get full functionality.
Why is this important? The setup was working before, but I must confess I had what I would call a drifting type problem. After 2 weeks, the driver would become eratic. Removing it in the past and then reinstalling worked.

I believe I am closing this thread. On the weekend I deleted both files I had in the print spooler directory. This morning when I turned on the machine, the defective printer was gone. Over 2 weeks to remove a function. Using the "servers" key I could delete the offending driver and reinstall. We will see how long this lasts.
