Coating on Tbird Core?

Just received my 1.2 GHz Tbird. Core seems to have some sort of protective coating on it. Does this need to be cleaned off before applying Artic Silver II? If so, whats the best way to clean the coating off?

I think it's best to remove the coating before applying the Artic Silver. This will provide better cooling.
I think to coating is to protect the core for preventing oxidation or something like that.

It's best to clean it with isopropyl alcohol or acetone, at least this is recommend by Artic Silver.
I've cleaned my core several times with it to ensure it's clean for the best cooling performance.
