All games freeze costantly after 5 mins.

Recently all of my games(even stupid 2D games) freeze on my laptop.It's just games and the computer itself doesn't freeze at all.

Try and go back to the 296.10 nvidia driver the 300... series make trouble with any gpu that is NOT the new 600.. gpu serie. I had system freeze with my 560Ti and the new 301.42 driver :(

You are using an external monitor? Just asking because a resolution of 1920 x 1080 seems a little bit uncommon for a laptop. That resolution is also asking a lot from a GeForce GT 540M (in games at least, desktop environment shouldn't matter).

If you had freezes before updating, too. It's most likely GPU overheating. Still got warranty for your laptop? If not open up and clean it yourself. If you do, sent it in.
