I'm trying to import photos scanned to a CD in a Word file. I can't figure out how to copy the picture so I can paste in a word file. Any help?

Try opening WORD, on the "insert' menu .. "picture"... "from file". In
the "look in:" window, select the CD drive. A list of available pictures
should appear for you to select for insertion into WORD.

In which format are the picture files?

You should be able to click on the Insert menu item > Picture > From file
and then navigate to where your pictures are on your CD. Select the picture
you want and then click <Insert>
