I am hoping that someone can help me fix my operating
system because that is what Lexmark tells me has become
corrupted and therefore NOT allowing me to install their
software for my new Lexmark 4270 All-in-One printer.
Originally I was able to install the 4270 and it worked
fine (printing and scanning), but then I discovered that
the telephone handset didn't work. When I contacted
Lexmark about this one problem they told me that I needed
to exchange the entire All-in-One for a new unit that
they'd send me.
When I finally received the new unit, because I had
disconnected the USB cables, I received a message stating
that I needed to reinstall everything. Only problem is
that when I tried doing this the Lexmark software
wouldn't install. The error message stated that
the "print spooler had stopped", but when I tried to
restart it, I just got more error messages about the
dependencies.
I found the posting from this website stating that I
needed to "open a Command Prompt" and then "key the
command: sc config spooler depend= RPCSS" and then try to
restart the print spooler. This worked and the print
spooler is now started.
However, then when I tried installing the Lexmark
software I repeatedly received an error message
stating "User canceled - please wait" only to discover
that only part of the software was installed (what seems
to be the fax center since the only two drivers listed in
the "Printers and Faxes" folder were:
"Capture fax" and "Fax Lexmark 4200 series". When I tried
to print, I received an error message stating that the
print driver needs to be installed. Unfortunately, I'm
not able to do this and now I'm receiving other error
messages, such as:
"Generic Host Process for Win32Services has encountered a
problem and needs to close";
"The specified print monitor is unknown";
"setup32.exe" problems; etc.
Has anyone else had these problems? I've tried to explain
to Lexmark that the original 4270 actually worked and
that it wasn't until I exchanged the units (which I
completely regret doing now!!!) that my operating system
started having all of these problems.
I know that there is a good possibility that I will have
to completely reinstall the operating system, but does
anyone have any other ideas before I am forced to do
that; especially since I don't have, and can't afford, to
purchase a backup system which means that all of my files
will be lost if I reformat the hard drive. Isn't there
some way of fixing the print monitor and whatever else is
causing the operating system to not allow Lexmark
software to be installed without reformating &
reinstalling the operating system?
Since I don't know how this newsgroup works, please send
any suggestions to me at lxnewman@yahoo.com. Thanks. L

You will probably have to clean out the system of any traces of the previous
drivers and then reinstall.
Go to this link and read carefully and follow intructions especially about
Lexmarks printers toward the bottom:
