I'm looking for a performance cooler for an Althon that is not too loud. My last cpu cooler sounded like a model airplane was taking off inside my PC case.

I'm thinking about using the OCZ Gladiator heatsink. Does anyone know if it comes standard with a fan? Is the fan quiet or can it be replaced with a quiet type? If so what fan do you recommend?

comes with a delta (frickin' loud), you can also get it with a quieter fan (not much quieter, and you sacrifice cooling).

I was checking some reviews, and the Taisol760092 was tested on a T-Bird 1.4@1652 and came in around 45c and only 32db (fairly quiet). Might want to check it out, but the quieter the fan, usually the crappier the cooling.

The gladiator comes in two flavors from the www.overclockerz.com website. The stock fan is a 32 cfm i believe which is a little quieter than the delta. If you want to try other fans though, you might look at the thermaltake 60 mm fan. It's a 31 cfm fan at only 28 db sound. You can hardly hear it really. I think it's the best fan/noise ratio you can find. It's the stock fan on the volcano II heatsink. If you go to www.sidewindercomputers.com, they have audio of the fan running. They sell them there for 8.50. I currently use the gladiator with a delta fan and I'm pretty happy with it overall. It sits at about 39 idle with a case temp of 33, and about 49-50 full load at the same case temp. This is on a 1.2 ghz athlon OCed to 1.4. Hope this helps.

That oughta void your warrenty!

Greetings,

I am building an AMD based system. Was planning on running a 1.33MHz (not overclocked) and was going to use the OCZ Gladiator as my heatsink. The MoBo is an MSI K7T266 Pro. Does anyone know if I might have a problem with fit? Also, if I am not going to overclock could I go with a quiter fan? My case has 2 80mm fans.

Thanks,

You should be able to run a quieter fan if you're not gonna overclock. If you're not temperature crazy like some of us and can stand temps in the low 50's, you could put any decent 25+ cfm fan on the glad and get ok temps. SOme of us are just a little nuts when it comes to temp.

I have bought several items from sidewindercomputers and
they are great to deal with. You will need a big knife to
open up your order because they pack it very good!!
Just thought I would let you know they are very reliable.

Rock out with your AMD out

I can second the reccomendation for sidewindercomputers. They are really great to deal with and the new listening room feature on their site is really great. I hate buying a fan and having it show up just to be ten times louder than I ever imagined. Db readings can only say so much. Pitch has alot to do with the annoying factor of a fan, and being able to hear before you buy is awesome. Just for kicks though guys... go to the site and listen to the audio for that 80 cfm 80mm delta. Imagine having a couple of those as case fans =)

MILLENIUM GLACIATOR. This was recommended to me, gonna order it. It got great reviews however. Go to yahoo and type it in just like that, you will get reviews. It costs less than $40 from millenium themselves. Quiet, and cool. Read the reviews. When I get it I will post review (but not for a couple of weeks though).

I was using a black Label Delta fan with my Alpha Heatsink. Man that thing was loud, actually think it was giving me heahaches... lol. Anywho, I bought the 60mm Thermaltake fan about 3 weeks ago, and man let me tell you, this thing is quiet, and I only sacrifice about 5 degrees C when under load. I still don't go above 50C with my gig 'C' running at 1200. Right now my idle temps are 29C load temps should be in the mid 40's. This fan rocks!! I can now hear my hard drive again. Now I just need quiet 80mm's for my case, Hey... lightbulb. Thermaltake makes nice quiet 80mm's too. Finally might have a silent PC.
