Windows 8 Pro upgrade to new SSD

Can I do a Windows 8 Pro upgrade to a new unformatted SSD without having my Windows 7 drive connected? I have the Windows 8 Pro upgrade CD.

You NEED an Operating system on the drive to UPGRADE....

So, that means I'll have to install Windows 7 on the SSD and then upgrade it with Windows 8 Pro. Sounds like a time-consuming aggravating proposition. Oh well, that's Windows. It would be nice if all you had to do was enter your Windows 7 code key somewhere early in the process of installing Windows 8 Pro.

Yes you can load windows 8 Pro to a new SSD, just leave the drive with your previous version attached.
Have done this twice works fine.
