So, that means I'll have to install Windows 7 on the SSD and then upgrade it with Windows 8 Pro. Sounds like a time-consuming aggravating proposition. Oh well, that's Windows. It would be nice if all you had to do was enter your Windows 7 code key somewhere early in the process of installing Windows 8 Pro.

Yes you can load windows 8 Pro to a new SSD, just leave the drive with your previous version attached. Have done this twice works fine.
