I have two Windows XP computers in a workgroup. Computer
1 has an HP 4000 printer that is shared. Computer 2 has
the fax service installed. The fax service is set to
automatically answer and to automatically print the
received faxes to the shared printer on the other
computer. The event log on Computer 2 shows that it
tried to send the print job to Computer 1, but that
access was denied. I suspect this happens because the
fax service runs under the system account. I tried to
run the fax service under different user credentials, but
it immediately stops just after it starts. Is there a
way to make this work without adding a local printer,
print server, or whatever else?

You can try out one of the following:

Have the same password for the same user name on both the
machines - Computer 1 which has the printer and computer 2
where you are receiving the fax.

Or, even when you are connecting to the printer from
computer 2 [you have to set up the printer before you can
automatically print from fax] a dialog will come up asking
for credentials for computer 1. After giving the
credentials, check the remember my password checkbox.
