OK, i have Microstar MS-6309 mobo,

a P III 600/133 and can overclock to 661/133 using
<CPU Host/PCI Clock (MHz): 147/36>

but when I try to use 154/30.8 (the next higher setting) the computer starts but nothing happens. I have to short the cmos and restart the computer and then it says:

CMOS Settings Wrong, CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad, and CMOS Display Type Wrong.

if you notice 154/30.8 the pci clock (30.8) is out of ratio when compared to 147/36, is that the reason?
or is it my griphics card (radeon 64sdr) or other components that dont like higher speeds?

After overclking to 661 and playing hardcore 3d games, the cpu temp is 38 deg celcius, pretty low for overclocked.

I also tried to change the voltage but kept getting the same message at next higher setting.

some of my other settings are:87.5/29.2
85/28.3
200/40
190/38
180/36
171/34.2
166/33.2
162/32.4
159/31.8
157/31.4
154/30.8
etc.

One last question when do I change the voltage on cpu?

thanks

well it could be many things....from memory to graphics card, but with your higher setting you were using, the pci clock was lower, then i don't think it was a sound card or graphics, what's your memory?
and you need to raise the cpu voltage when a o/ced system become unstable, i.e:crashes a lot, but starts.
and what mean of monitoring are you using to determine your cpu temperature?38 is really really low after 100%load for a PIII..don't you think.

it seems that your ratios are fcuked... well not quite... yours seem to change to 1/5 rather than 1/4 at 150mhz which should be a boon as it saves you from instabilities with pci cards... it seems your processor just cant hack it... try up the voltage as that could help you out a bit...

if in doubt blame microsoft...

I monitor my temperature from bios. Right after I play a game, i exit, shutdown and go into bios to see the temp.

ANOTHER QUESTION:

If i were to buy another P III for this mobo., which one should i buy, one wit 133 bus or 100 bus.

Because say i buy 700/100 P III, can i make the cpu talk to the bus at 133 instead of 100?

Or should I get one with 133 bus?
