Printing Grinds System to Halt

My little notebook runs Windows XP. It also runs on two different hybrid
networks (both Netware and Microsoft) in two different locations, using
different wireless connections. Normally, it works fine. When I try to
print, however, everything grinds to a halt. First, it takes forever for
the print screen to come up. Then, if I want to switch printrers, that
takes forever. Finally, for anything to actually print takes forever.
Clearly, something is not right. Suggestions appreciated.
