sorting list

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax (More info?)

I have a list of names each on separate line. I cannot get
my Home XP to alphabatize (sort). These names are in
columns and configued like this: Peter Smith '68-07. Any
ideas why this particular list will not sort (and also it
will not allow me to number) the list?
